A few more year end updates have been finished over the past few days. Most of these have been mentioned in Making Magic and will be listed down below. However, there's one big update I'd like to introduce first - buddy mares! A mare must be transitioned before she can be used as a buddy. Mares are only eligible transition if they are: under 15 years old, have no more than 1 foal slot remaining, are not currently in foal/covered, and do not have an active breeding request. If a mare meets all requirements, you may transition her from her Manage page for $500,000. This fee is discounted to $250,000 for Green, Novice, and Amateur and discounted by 50% for mares who have earned a PM Transitioning a mare begins a 6 month rehabilitation process. During rehabilitation, a mare must be trained by hand and can only perform Long Gallops. After completing 6 Long Gallops, the mare is considered fully rehabilitated and may be used as a workout buddy. She may also be converted to a yearling buddy at any time after finishing rehabilitation. One final note of importance is that buddy mares can never be bred again. Only transition a mare if you are absolutely certain you don't want any more foals out of her. If you haven't been keeping up with the sidebar, here's what else is new: • December to January rollover will begin at 1:00am Saturday and the site will be down for a portion of Saturday. • Sparks of Joy horses reset at the end of each game month, meaning if you don't do Sparks for awhile you will no longer return to an outdated horse. • You may now 'Reroll' your assigned Sparks of Joy horse once per meet. • Sprouts and horses purchased with auction vouchers cannot be sold until they have at least 10 race starts. • Horses who are already Marathon transitioned will not gain Longevity or Prime when transitioning to Steeplechase. • New Year's Resolutions may only be used once per game year. • Series races now award purses through 10th place. 7th through 10th place finishers receive the same percentage of purse as 6th place. • Purses for WCF and ISHC have increased significantly and filly race purses have been adjusted to match colt races. • Track info pages have some new census information to help you better declide where to (re)locate your stable! • Genotype Search results show breed(s) accepted under the stud fee. • Stables may earn a Chameleon badge when they actively enter horses in color shows. • All stables receive up to a 25% discount on race entry fees based upon racing activity in the previous game month. The same discount applies to show entry fees based upon show activity in the previous game month. • Inactive accounts may no longer be hit with balloons or snowballs. • Fae horses may now opt in to color shows. Shows will be available for them beginning in January Y46. • Hypomate shows Speed and Stamina genes (rather than ratings) for horses who have a Genotype purchased. |

These are really great updates, especially the buddy mares system, I think that sounds really positive. I also love the race entry fee discounts based on activity in previous month. I think Fae horses in colour shows will b interesting too. Thank you. |

Ohh my god, thank you so much for the buddy mare system. I have so many mares I don't want to breed, can't GAO, and don't want to sell (and are too young to pension early even if that thing worked.) |

Oooh this is really awesome, it'll be helpful to be able to have mares transition to buddies to fill out the ability range! Also loving the race entry fee discounts, and of course larger purses for ISHC haha. |

These are really good updates.Like that Sparks of joy can reroll buddy mares sound like a great idea and so are reduced entry fees. |

I‘m not sure I have a lot of mares I don‘t want to breed and am willing to spend 500k on with buddy workouts in general being nerfed compared to some game years ago... but an interesting update nonetheless. Also some of the smaller updates really sound great! |

Love the idea of the buddy mare system! I was feeling that retired mares didn't have a lot of options aside from breeding, and I'm glad that they now have an additional use. Looking forward to trying it out in my stable! |

I appreciate the SoJ reroll/refresh ability. Buddy mare system will definitely make it easier to do more with retired mares (and make them worth more in the sales arena, esp compared to retired geldings). Overall sounds like some great QoL updates! |

The buddy mare concept seems interesting! It’s good that the sparks of joy horses reset... Geez this game has so many updates it’s hard to keep up LOL |

Buddy mares are an intriguing change. Can’t wait to see how breeding/afps change with this change. And I love that the Fae can do color shows too! |

I always wondered why mares couldn't be buddies, glad to see they can now. Makes a lot of sense the way you chose to implement it, I will definitely have something to do with my mares that I don't want to breed now. And thanks for the overview of little updates as well, nice to see them all in once place and refresh my memory. Thanks again for your hard work. |

Thanks for the update. Hope to be back giving sparks of joy again as time allows after being told of the benefits the recipient receives. |

I think it would've been nice to be able to transition a mare to a 'nurse mare' (not in relation to the real term). That way you could justify paying X amount to transition and have a mare to gradually help with pregnancy risk - if the mare was a decent enough producer or racer it would impact that by a very small amount. This would've just been for the lucky/unlucky roll so it wouldn't improve AFP and ruin the system. But I digress! It just seemed like having mares have another 'job' relating to foals/producing that didn't require them to produce themselves would've been interesting. I am happy that everyone enjoys buddy mares, however. Best of luck in the fae shows. I think I might stick to selling mares that don't fit with my program, but I'm happy this can help other players! |

Wow, that's a lot of updates. I'm most excited about Fae horses being able to enter color shows. Now I can get my little Lilac filly ready for color shows next year!! I might also look into the buddy mare system. I'll have to take a hard look at some of my girls and see if it's worth the cash to transition them or not but in all it sounds pretty good. |

This is an exciting way to use mares we don't want to breed! I'm really excited about the Chameleon badges, even though I still can't find the location of badges on my page. lol! Thanks for the updates! |

"Sprouts and horses purchased with auction vouchers cannot be sold until they have at least 10 race starts." Lots of interesting updates recently. The above it the one I am most curious about as I'm not sure we're able to select which auction horse the auction voucher is applied to? Unless I'm missing something. |

Wow a ton of updates! I'm super excited about being able to use mares as buddies, the fact that it was just geldings was always interesting but it makes a lot more real life sense to be able to use mares as well. |
Firefly (#8694) Windracers Estate Posted On: 07/29/21 2:59 pm |
A lot of it is confusing to me. I'll learn it and i'm grateful and excited to do so. |

Quite a few updates incoming it looks like. I think my allowance mares that I was pasturing until they could be EPd just found themselves a new purpose lol. Chameleon badge looks very nice! |
Thistle (#601) Sea Holly Meadows Posted On: 07/29/21 4:19 pm |
So many great updates! I don't know how often i'll transition buddy mares, but it's nice to have the option :) |
Epithet (#8051) Celtic International Posted On: 07/29/21 10:44 pm |
These are all really interesting changes! I think the mare buddies is super neat - I've been wondering if that would ever be a thing or why it wasn't, so it's cool to see that it's been in the works. I think it may be ultimately out of my price range for buddies, but it's good to have that option! The other changes are interesting and overall positive too, I think! |

Does a mare have to be a certain age to be eligible to breed?? |
