Yearling Auction | |

The Y56 Yearling Auction is now open for bidding! The auction will close no sooner than 24 hours from now. As a reminder, this is the best way to pick up talented racing stock that will also usually become excellent breeding stock. All horses must meet the minimum guidelines outlined on the Consignment page, which guarantees they have stakes-quality Potential and the traits to make them strong juvenile racers. Additionally, colts cannot have Cursed or Below Average Producer Quality. If you're new, you can't go wrong with any horses in the sale and you're better off buying more horses for low prices than bidding big on just one or two horses. Higher prices don't necessarily mean better horses and if you sort the auction by price and simply bid on the lowest horses, you'll still go home with some winners. |

Year End Awards...are back!
Issa (#1) | |

If your mailbox has been bombarded with alerts of 'Champion' and 'Reserve Champion', you probably already figured it out...but now it's official. Year End Awards are back! We've done a complete overhaul of the awards system from how they are earned to the categories and divisions awarded. You can find out everything you need to know about the revised Year End Award system in the Handbook. With so many different breeds, pedigree categories, and transition options included, there are now over 600 different awards given out each year! Trophy icons for awards have been updated to include a blue version for Champion awards and a red version for Reserve Champion. Horses who earned awards in the old system will keep the older icon they've always shown. Awards, without item prizes, have been retroactively assigned for Y43 (where the old awards left off) up through Y54. Awards for Y55 will be assigned soon and will include the normal item prizes. From this point forward, awards will be given out in January of each game year. |

Appaloosa Raffle Stallions

Good morning, everyone! The mini stallion raffle will be held later today. As the spotty boys head over to their new homes, please remember that they will be under the same rules as the original set of Appaloosa raffle stallions. For ease of reference, I'm reposting them below with one addendum (bold). Rules for Raffle Stallions: • Stallions must be listed publicly. • Stallions must stand for no more than $100,000. Most of the mares they accept will be Horse Trader mares which award a $250,000 bonus, bringing earnings up to $350,000 per mare covered. • Stallions must be set to accept Appaloosa Horse mares only. • You should attempt to take at least 6 mares (minimum of 4 outside mares) to each stallion, provided you receive enough requests that are reasonable matches. (Stallions should not be marked full before accepting at least 6 mares.) • You may accept more than 6 mares, but regardless of how many you accept no more than 2 may be mares you own or are leasing. • Stallions may not be Cloaked. • Rules may be added or changed if any other issues come up. Rules may continue into Y57 depending on how the stud market looks. |

Inbreeding | |
Issa (#1) | |
02/01/24 4:28 pm | |
Promised a very, very long time ago, inbreeding penalties have finally taken their final form. (Or at least something close to it!) Every horse's pedigree has been evaluated for inbreeding and the result can be viewed by clicking to view their pedigree from their main page. The inbreeding percentage can be explained as the percentage of their DNA influenced by inbreeding. If you breed a horse to its parent, for example, the resulting foal is 75% inbred since 75% of its DNA is coming from one horse. Foals who have 25% or higher inbreeding have an increased risk of negative genetic anomalies. The more severe their inbreeding, the greater the risk of anomalies. Typically only horses which show on a foal's pedigree matter for inbreeding. If their great-great-grandsire on their dam side is the same as a great-great-grandsire on their sire side, no inbreeding occurs since neither of those horses are visible on the foal's pedigree. However, if both of a foal's parents are inbred, they may pass strong enough inbreeding (25%+) to cause penalties in the foal. Horses with less than 25% inbreeding may still show an inbreeding percentage on their pedigree, but are not currently impacted by it. Any horse under 12.5% inbreeding is considered 'safe' and will automatically revert to 0% even if they technically had a miniscule amount of inbreeding. To help avoid inbreeding penalties, the Hypomate pedigree has been extended to show a full 3 generations of pedigree. It will also show a warning (like with Lethal Silver/Champagne Syndrome) if the cross would result in a foal with 25%+ inbreeding. Fret not! Although inbreeding percentages have been rolled for all existing horses, the genes and stats of existing horses have not been impacted by these changes. Only foals born from this year forward have the possibility of negative anomalies as discussed above. |

December Reminders | |
Issa (#1) | |
01/24/24 7:13 pm | |
Happy FFH December, everyone! This is just a few reminders to make sure you have everything wrapped up and ready to go for the new year. The Appaloosa Select Yearling Raffle will be held on Friday night. Tickets may be purchased through approximately noon on Friday. Please see the post below for details. It's the last week to buy yearling partnerships for the year. It's also the last week to do pregnancy check-ups for mares in due in Y56. If you have 10yo geldings, make sure you retire them this week if you want to assign a buddy trait. Entries for the World Championship Festival, Zodiac Zenith, and International Stock Horse Championships all close at noon on Saturday. If you're a new player, don't forget to see if you can send a horse to the Initiate's Quest - a series just for beginners! More information on the Initiate's Quest can be found at the bottom of this page. It's the last chance to earn those shiny Juvenile Advancement checkmarks on 2yos and 3yos - be sure to get in a buddy workout and/or another race if they haven't earned theirs yet. Otherwise, don't forget to take advantage of off season training perks for any horses not racing this week. |
