It’s been another busy day behind the scenes! We are beginning to sift through survey responses and discuss concerns to come up with solutions where needed. I’ll be writing up a review and response to key points of the survey later this week or next, once everyone’s had a chance to complete it and we’ve had a chance to explore everything brought up in your responses. If you haven’t taken it yet, you are definitely not too late!

Newbie Horse Trader Boosts
While we have some other things planned for newbies in the future, we’ve gone ahead and implemented this in the meantime. Newer players (those with 25 or less horses) already receive a boost to Horse Trader horses that ensures they are race-ready in terms of Condition, Morale, Peak, etc. In addition, this new boost has a chance to increase their stats and potential. There’s a good chance for a small boost (perhaps bumping them up a grade) and a smaller chance for a significant boost (bumping up a couple of grades). This should help newer players find their way into graded stakes races sooner and easier, without relying on sheer luck and/or rare finds in the Sales Arena.

Sparks of Joy
I know, I know, we just posted about this yesterday, but we’ve already made a minor tweak. When newer players receive a Spark, they will be given a small monetary reward in addition to the random buff applied to their horse. This reward is based upon status level as follows: Green - $200,000; Novice - $100,000; Amateur - $50,000. While there are already many, many ways to earn money in FFH, we do agree that it can sometimes be a struggle for new members to balance everything. These little bits a couple times a week should give active, newer players a little more wiggle room in their budget, offsetting some of the costs associated with trying to grow and improve their stable.

Entry Checklist
There’s a new button you can find on the ‘Current Entries’ section of horse pages. (To be added to the stablewide Current Entries page in a later update.) This button simply says ‘Check’ and clicking it will pop-up the Entry Checklist. We already have a few plans to improve upon this entry-check system, but, for now, this page will serve as a quick visual guide as to how correctly you’ve entered your horse. It covers all major areas of concern in terms of serious impacts on PR and/or risk of injury. Ideally, you’ll want to see a green checkmark (‘Ideal’ rating) in every area on the page. However, you may choose to accept the risk associated with cautionary entry in some areas. If you’re unsure, click the link at the bottom to go directly to the ‘Injuries’ Handbook page to read more.

Multiple Entry Warning
A warning will now display above the ‘Enter’ button on horse pages when a horse is entered into multiple races. This simply serves as a reminder that entering multiple races is risky. Hopefully this will encourage newer players to avoid entering their new horses into a ton of races in their first month.

Quick Enter
Even with some of the new mistake-proof entry measures (above), we’ve realized that entering, for newer players, can be really complicated and prone to accidental error. (Oops - you accidentally included 4F when you meant to only do 5F or maybe you didn’t realize you needed to select 5yo+ to find SC races...the list goes on.) Without quick enter, new players have to bounce back between a horse page and a race search constantly, trying to make sure they get everything just right. Not only does this complicate things, but it means that they often don’t return to the horse page after entering and may miss the opportunity to double check their entry using the new Entry Checklists. This leads to injuries and poor race performance which snowballs into players feeling frustrated with the game and/or entering.

To address this issue, Quick Enter is now available to everyone, with or without a Pro account. This will be extremely valuable to newer players and will reduce a bit of the complexity and confusion involved with simply entering races. We also realize this is removing a key feature from Pro accounts and we don’t want to devalue Pro accounts as a whole. Grooms are already participating in some brainstorming to come up with replacement features for this (and other no longer applicable) Pro features. Several ideas have already been proposed and have favorable review, so it’s likely we will see the replacement features for Pros implemented within the next week or two. If you’re not a Groom - we still value your opinion! Feel free to leave suggestions on this post or in the Suggestions forum or even mention them in Discord.

Change Log
A new section has been added to the Handbook called the ‘Change Log’. This is still very incomplete, but will be used to keep a record of changes and updates to the game. It will list them by rough date as well as in-game date (ex: Feb Y33). It will have a very brief description of each change as well as a link to go directly to the related news post. This should make it much easier to find missed news posts or refer back to recent changes that haven’t yet made it into the Handbook.

All Paint marking genes are now weighted by breed. Paint Horses have a higher chance of passing Paint markings to their foals, while all other breeds have a lower chance of passing Paint markings to their foals. This makes the classification of Paint markings Common for Paint Horses and Rare for all other breeds.

Prime has been broken and has not been declining at all for several game years. As a result, most horses have substantially more Prime than should be appropriate. (Ex: A 6yo who hit 100% Peak by the time they turned 4 should have lost 24+ Prime but has actually lost none.) Rather than setting all horses to what they should have, horses 5 and older will temporarily lose Prime twice as fast to accommodate.

Horses no longer have a chance to reveal genotype upon retirement. However, the chance to reveal transition genes is increased for horses who have a Minor, Major, or Master. (With each award offering a greater chance.)

Time Turner and Prismatic Time Turner have been restored from retirement. They now change a mare's due date to January or the current month and Prismatic also resets a mare's color show cooldown.

The mare grading formula has been updated. All mares may now be tested again, although most likely there will be few changes.

Horses who earn Court of Stars now receive a Producer Quality boost. Horses who have already earned Court of Stars have also received a PQ boost.

A few minor adjustments have been made to Stallion Grades and stallions will need retested. Notably - Since SS/Import/Custom cannot be the worst level of 'Average', they may still earn B grades. Horses with tested negative mutations also cannot grade higher than C unless tested AA+ PQ. This info has been updated in the Handbook as well. Thanks for your patience!

The Stallion Grade system has been updated and testing is open again. These updates offer more flexibility in factors that have less impact on a foal's potential while placing more weight on factors that have a stronger impact on a foal's potential. The Handbook page has also been updated, though the most notable change is that tested Average PQ cannot grade higher than C.

Contesting horses will have a 3 leg jackpot series through July, August, and September beginning in Y55. This will be offered for both barrels and poles with alternating regions per race.

Performance based Suggested Grade now only looks at a horse's most recent race. This should alleviate a lot of problems where horses show a lower grade than is actually appropriate, helping avoid Handily results.

Mares who are already retired may be eligible for reduced foal slots. If so, a notice will appear at the top of their page allowing you to opt in (or opt out) of the foal slot change.

The value of Golden Apples has been updated to 200 GA = 100 PC = $1,000,000 (loosely). Prices for items in the GAO have been updated accordingly. The PC value for Sunkissed Tart, Ultra Wraps, Cream Token, Roan Token, and Dun Token have also been updated.

Minimum pricing for public sales has increased to $100,000. Horses already listed for sale have been updated accordingly.
