Good evening, FFians! It’s been a bumpy ride this week with rollover and server issues, but hopefully things are settling down and we’ll get back on track. Assuming all goes well tonight, our next rollover will be pushed back one day, to Friday, and we’ll go from there. Sparks of Joy A new page can be found under the Community section of the site: Spark of Joy. You can visit this page each day to view a random horse and send them ‘fan mail’. For now, you’ll be able to do this for 2 horses per day. If the system goes well, we’ll consider increasing this in the future. The message you send can be almost anything - discussing how much you love its pedigree, how promising he looks as a sire, how impressed you are by the effort they’ve put into campaigning a lower potential horse, and so on. You can include artwork (no matter how simple or silly), poems, RP-style writing, or anything else the horse inspires you to create. The only rules are that it must be positive (no mean fan mail allowed!) and must show effort. A few words or one sentence will not do - at least aim for a short paragraph. Note: All Sparks are anonymous unless you choose to include your name. However, please do report any ‘bad’ Sparks you receive to the ModBox, should you ever encounter any. Why participate? First, and foremost, it’s a chance to brighten someone’s day! Even a few words about a pixel pony can be a pick-me-up during hard times and it might even be something that will make a lackluster horse into something special. In addition all horses who receive a Spark will also receive a random ‘buff’. The buff is randomly rolled depending on whether the horse is a yearling, racer, broodmare, or stallion. It can improve a wide range of stats/traits including: Morale, Courage, Consistency, Peak, Prime, Fertility, and Risk. If you get lucky, you might even gain an extra foal slot on a stallion or have the Love at First Sight trait applied to a mare. In addition, participating in sending Sparks ensures your own horses will be eligible. The horses randomly drawn each week (after this first week) will only be drawn from barns who sent Sparks the previous week. If you miss a week - not to worry. Just be sure to send a Spark and you’ll be added into the mix again the next week. At the end of each week, mods will review all Sparks and each will select a favorite that they feel showed a great deal of effort and/or creativity on the sender’s part. Each ‘winner’ selected will receive a special prize! Grooms If you’ve been active on Discord, you might have noticed the new ‘Groom’ role floating around. This is a new rank/role on FFH that is formed of experienced, knowledgeable, active members who can act as representatives of the broader member base. As invested players who want to see FFH thrive, grooms will have a chance to preview and discuss some changes before they are implemented, becoming a part of our brainstorming and development process. (Though information from said discussions, of course, remains undisclosed.) As (mostly) experienced members, grooms also serve as people newer members can look up to and learn from. If you have a question and don’t see a moderator around, look for a groom! (They’ll soon have special icons on-site as well.) Please keep in mind, however, that they are not moderators and may not know the answer to every question and are also not responsible for handling any problems that may arise on the site or Discord. If you need help of that variety, flag down a mod or use the ModBox. Peak The rate at which Peak is gained has been rebalanced. Previously, the lowest amount of Peak a horse could gain per month was 2%. This means it would take a horse 50 months, from the time they turned 2, to reach 100% Peak. We understand that slow-peaking horses can be a major frustration, including older horses who were neglected and you want to get back on the track again. We’ve now updated the system to where the lowest Peak gain is 4% per month - meaning it will never take more than 25 months for a horse to reach 100%. In addition, we’ve adjusted numbers so that horses with Strong Peak (genetically) will virtually always hit 100% in 6 months (previously up to 9 months). Peak gain rates for all existing horses have been boosted accordingly (about 2% faster for each horse) and the impacts of this change should be more evident going forward. 2 Year Old Buddy Workouts One more chance has been made for 2 year old buddy workouts. The amount of experience they gain is now based on different scores than older horses, as they tend to work lower scores overall. 2 year olds will now receive bonus experience at scores of 50 and 70. In addition, they will receive slightly more experience across the board (from buddy workouts) than older horses. The maximum an older horse can gain is 12% per month, while the maximum a 2 year old can gain is now 17% per month. |

I really love the concept of Sparks of Joy. It promotes positive interactions and after recieving one, it made me go back and really take another peak at the horse. Potentially changing how I train it. One small thing can create a domino affect. |
