SIP + Series Races
Issa (#1)
03/20/19 11:21 am
Good morning lovelies! It is that time of the day/week/FFH year once again!

First up, some jockey changes! The jockeys related to running styles (Trailblazer, Last to First, and Adaptable) now reduce the chances of your horse refusing to train. Use one of these with your young and/or temperamental horses for a slightly less frustrating training experience.

Timber Tournament awards are (or will be) going in for last year’s winners! In addition to a shiny new sheet they may wear once retired, all TT victors receive a Tournaround Medallion. This item has 2 uses and can be given to a horse to make them SC eligible while also increasing their Longevity and Prime.

Series races for stock horses have been added to the Events page. The two stock series will take place in July A and December and will boast some very exciting purses and races for all divisions. These are slightly tentative in that exact distances may change before those dates, but most likely won't. Use this as your guideline for preparing your stock horses for these exciting races!

In ongoing efforts to improve the clarity of stud quality, we’ve made some minor adjustments to the SIP system. A stallion must now have 10 foals on the ground to earn Silver (or Silver+) status, 15 to earn Gold, and 20 to earn Platinum. The reason for this change is probably evident - but we were too frequently seeing stallions breed to 5+ fantastic mares and earn Silver only to later see a sharp decline in AFP. We hope these changes will improve the reliability of SIP. No studs who were already tested were impacted by these changes.

Last, but by no means last, all your favorite staff have been working hard behind the scenes to improve the overall series race campaigning system. As the site continues to grow, it is obvious that a flat 20 entry limit on races is not sustainable - we’ve already seen times when horses cannot enter a race because it fills and this problem will only occur more frequently over time. We also recognize that the qualification system has some flaws. Not only is it hard to remember what PRs you need to aim for, but it also doesn’t easily shift to meet the (often wildly varying) demands of each individual racing division.

Long story short, we are unveiling a new series race qualifying system for this year! This will apply to all series races excluding the World Championship Festival. Please read carefully as this will most likely apply to your horses throughout the year.

All series races now have an uncapped entry limit. That means if every single stable has a horse they want to enter, they may enter. However, not all horses who ‘enter’ will be able to compete in the race. 24 hours prior to the race running, 20 horses from among the entry pool will be accepted for entry into the race. If races are running on Thursday at 1:00am, this will happen on Wednesday at 1:00am. If races are running on Sunday at 1:00am, this will happen on Saturday at 1:00am. Once final entries have been selected from the pool, the race will be closed to further entries. In other words, enter at least 24 hours before the race runs to ensure you have a chance at competing.

How does the pool work?
The selection process will first look for any AQ winners in the pool. AQ winners will be accepted for entry with preference given to PR - those with the highest yearly best PR will be selected first. If there are less than 20 horses who have won an AQ so far this year, all AQ winners will be granted entry. If there are more than 20 AQ winners, the best 20 will be selected.

After prioritizing AQ winners, the script will then select from among the remaining pool of horses with preference given to those with the highest yearly best PR. If 15 AQ winners were selected, the 5 remaining slots will be filled with non-AQ winners. In the rare case that there were no AQ winners, all 20 slots would be filled with non-AQ winners. In cases of tied PRs (such as 0 among horses who have not yet raced), entrants will be chosen randomly.

Is there a chance my Trinity race winner will miss out on future legs of their series?
Fear not! If your horse places top 3 in a Trinity, Crusader’s Challenge, or Timber Tournament series, they will be guaranteed entry into the future legs of that series for the remainder of the year.

Ummm...what about January?!
The only exclusion to the above system is the January Timber Tournament race. Since the year starts of fresh, horses will not yet have any AQ wins or a high PR for the year. Rather than selecting entries at random, the January race will instead give entry preference those horses with the highset January timed workout score. This means you must prioritize buddy working your January TT entries! If you cannot yet BW, your horse may still be able to enter if the pool is small enough to fit in those with a 0 BW.

What if my horse didn’t make it into the series race I entered?
If your horse was not selected from the entry pool, they’ll be scratched from the race. You will then have 24 hours to enter them into an alternative race, rather than missing out on entering entirely.

These are excellent changes/additions! I'm so excited for the Tournaround Medallion. I had been hoping something like that would show up! It'll definitely be interesting to see how the new series changes go. Question though - if your horse doesn't get chosen for a series race would the entry fee be refunded?

I can't wait to see how the TT sheet looks like! I was wondering if the SIP is going to have changes since the handbook listed "ineligible" for silver at 5 foals, so it's good to know this. I believe this is a great change for SIP! I am not entirely sure how I feel about the changes to series races / qualifications, but we'll see how this turns out. At least this ensures the best horses are competing in the series, making the races more competitive! I am wondering the same as Catarina, though: if our entry gets scratched, will we get the whole fee refunded? If not, that would feel a bit unfair. :D

It’ll be interesting to watch how the series races unfold now.

I agree with the fee needing to be refunded if entries are scratched. SIP change will be harder to get higher SIP ratings, but that will hopefully help negate all the false high SIPs we still have running around here

I really like the change to the SIP, it seems like this will make it better to see which studs are actually producing well. I also like the changes to the series races, as this feels more lifelike to have a pool and then have entrants "drawn" for the final post (I believe this is how its done for big, real life races too). It will be curious to see how everything turns out for the series races-I feel it will most definitely be more competitive. I do hope the entry fee is refunded at least in part if the horse does not make it into the race. OR...that the entry fee is not pulled from your account UNTIL the horse is accepted into the race. That would make more sense to me. Kind of like a "pre-authorization" payment that doesn't drop until the horse secures a place in the race. That would avoid any issues with folks. Just an idea, if this isn't already in place. I'm not sure how that would work with the script, but it's worth mentioning at least.

The last change will have to grow on me. I see the benefits in it, but I also get worried for my own horses haha. I wonder how this will play out for the Gems as many 2yos are unraced, and even go on to win their respective Gem. I’m super interested to see how it all plays out.

I love the new series race qualification system. Fairly similar to how horses are decided for the KY Derby and probably other big races as well. Especially as a new player, this system makes a lot more sense!

Thank you for the updates. It'll take some getting used to. Love the SIP changes. Not so keen on the series until I see it in action, as I never feel I have high PR horses that can compete anyway. So, yup. It'll be interesting.

Kinda liking the SIP changes, actually, for the same reasons as to why they were implemented. I'd often get suspicious if I'd bred to a stud that showed high SIP and got one (or more) 'duds' as it were (though of course, any horse can be a good one if you work them right!) Hopefully this'll help cut out some of the confusion!

Prime has been broken and has not been declining at all for several game years. As a result, most horses have substantially more Prime than should be appropriate. (Ex: A 6yo who hit 100% Peak by the time they turned 4 should have lost 24+ Prime but has actually lost none.) Rather than setting all horses to what they should have, horses 5 and older will temporarily lose Prime twice as fast to accommodate.

A few minor adjustments have been made to Stallion Grades and stallions will need retested. Notably - Since SS/Import/Custom cannot be the worst level of 'Average', they may still earn B grades. Horses with tested negative mutations also cannot grade higher than C unless tested AA+ PQ. This info has been updated in the Handbook as well. Thanks for your patience!

The Stallion Grade system has been updated and testing is open again. These updates offer more flexibility in factors that have less impact on a foal's potential while placing more weight on factors that have a stronger impact on a foal's potential. The Handbook page has also been updated, though the most notable change is that tested Average PQ cannot grade higher than C.
