It's a new month already - and with it comes another giveaway! :D These past few weeks have been full of rain, wind and storms in my part of the world, which led to the creation of this little girl: Ghost Of The Swamp Everything water-y combined in one pony; this pitch black girl with sooty 1 was loosely inspired by the Kelpie mythology - however she decided to live in a swamp instead of a river - so it comes to NO surprise that she is strong for mud! As last time, Issa sponsored this pony. Thank you, Issa! ♥ To call this soaking wet filly to your stable, please read the rules and post in the thread: • Please keep the drawing as the main image, that also means not changing or adding marking items. • You may sell her down the road if you decide you don't want her anymore, but please do not enter if that is your main intention. • Optional: tell me which horse-y mythology is your favorite? Whoops, almost forgot to put an end date XD This giveaway runs until March 15th! It will end randomly during that day and the winner will be drawn via random.org. | |

Oh man, am I already smitten with this girl. The art is absolutely dreary, cold, wet, and stunning to look at! I love the kelpie-esque theme, and that's also my favorite horsey mythology. I love waterhorse lore, so much to the point that my friend and I have created our own horse breed/species of water horses to use in ARPGs. They're largely based on the Each Uisiges/Kelpies of Scottish lore, and their Welsh counterpart; the Ceffyl Dŵr. I find that kind of mythology super fascinating and fun to learn about. Ours are a bit more horse than shapeshifter, but they have some cool water forms and partially shifted elongated mouths with lots of snappy teeth <3 here are a couple of my favorite pieces I've done over the years: a really fun redraw of one of my geldings, Hedywnn. and a more fun/sticker style doodle of my favorite mare, Kraken. Thanks so much for this awesome opportunity, I love this gal and I'm sure whoever gets her will give her a great home! |

Oh she’s lovely - and would fit my Bayou themed stable so well.
Kelpie lore draws me in so much, I love Scottish lore. Not so much horsey mythology, but I love the Mari Lwyd wassailing folk custom from Wales. Mari Lwyd is group of revelers carrying a horse skull door to door and demanding entry through song. The focus is on the Mari Lwyd itself, a jaw-articulated equine skull decorated with ribbons, ornaments, and festive bits and bobs, plus a sheet draped over the person carrying it, giving the whole thing a ghostly appearance. Mari Lwyd caroling generally takes place around Christmas and New Year’s, though sometimes also in mid-summer or Halloween.(this is taken from a website because I just couldn’t find a way to describe it myself). |

I love the kelpie myth, but in the interest of being ~unique~ I'm gonna pick something from closer to home xD I always loved the Silver Brumby books by Elyne Mitchell, about a mythical 'silver' (read: palomino) horse in the brumby herds of the australian highlands. Also, the dun from The Man From Snowy River, the GOAT of stock horses. |

Im at such a loss with this one! Im so in love with her and her deep black color but I know nothing cool about horsey mythology like the other players. All I know is I would treasure her and would never think to sell her. Im starting to begin working with black horses in game and strive to create a line of fantastic black racers! My real life horse was a solid black Morgan so it just makes sense to have him back with me if possible. I lost him at 33yrs old and remember him through these games. Thanks so much Issa and Raz for these wonderful chances! |

My favourite horse mythology is for sure Sleipnir and the stories about him in Norse mythology. In most stories Sleipnir is the mount of the God, Odin. Sleipnir is said to have 8 legs which allow him to travel more swiftly and silently then any other horse ever has. He is usually grey in colour in most stories and artwork but is occasionally depicted as black. He is considered the ‘god of horses’. He can travel across land or water and bare his rider into the underworld if he chooses. He cannot be ridden by anyone he does not desire to ride him. Such was the importance of the legend of Sleipnir that archeologists have discovered two stone tablets dated from the 8th century that depict carvings of the 8 legged God of Horses. The artwork featuring him , modern and ancient, is often utterly stunning and beautiful to see. I love all stories about him. |

Sooty on black is just lovely! My favorite horse mythology is one I read in a book way back. The Capaill Uisce. They are vicious waterhorses that live in the ocean. They frequently kill unfortunate people and animals and drag them back to the water. They spend most of the year underwater water but each fall, usually in November, come to land to breed. People would try to catch them to race but many are killed in their attempts. And even after capture spells aren't enough and many more riders are either drug to sea during the beach run races or, killed by the horses of other riders. |

The art on her is incredible! My favourite would have to be the Winged Hippocampus. They are Half-Horse half-fish with wings. They were said to pull Poseidon's chariot and be ridden by naiads. Seeing them was supposed to be a good omen for sailors. |

Oh she looks so cool and spooky! :D I’m a bit simple in that I just love the myth of Pegasus. A winged warhorse seems like such exciting freedom! |

Pegasus! Flying hands down. Since I was just a little child I’ve dreamt on occasion of flying around on a Pegasus. Who doesn’t do that? Lol Since I saw the movie, never ending story as a kid my dream ride is not the (kinda ugly) dragon thing the kid rode, but my beautiful sleek black Pegasus that takes me to see wondrous things! Of course she (because it is a she) has a very distinct white star mark on her forehead and a white streak in her mane. Her name is Kai’Meira Moonblade. I also wrote her into a DND campaign a couple of times, once for a female woodelf ranger and again for my elfling druid (as my wild shape). So, Kai will always be part of me no matter how old I get. She has a place in my heart. This lovely contest horse would be my FFH Kai 😀 |

Another amazing piece of artwork Raz!Not so much related to the mythology, but on my bucket list is to make it over to Scotland someday to see the Kelpie statues there! |

Love this girl! Hopefully I’m not too late! Can I say the Mearas from LOTR as my mythology? Only the Kings of Rohan could ride them and who could forget Shadowfax, the Lord of the Mearas, who allowed Gandalf to ride him. |

I loved reading all your answers, thank you guys! There were some new ones for me that I will absolutely look into :D And our winner this month is: Rose (#24) - congrats! ♥ I will set up the sale in a moment :) For next month.. I need some feedback! Would you guys rather see this kind of giveaway of a created GB pony with art - or - a straight art-only giveaway in which I post the background with the horse shape drawn in and I would color in one of *your* FFH horses? Please let me know! |
Arthenia (#602) Two Doves Creek Posted On: 3/15/2022 08:01 PM |
I'd be fine with either! Getting your own horse done would probably be awesome but I feel like it could turn into a hassle for you. |

I cannot TELL you how excited I am to have this filly, I love her so dearly. I love seeing what you come up with each month for these so I vote the giveaways, but I don't think anyone is gonna say not to free art! As long as I get to oogle the finished product I'll be happy xD |
