Hi, I'm quite new so I wanted to make sure I didn't misunderstand: I read that I should always keep to the sequence of first entering a horse to a race (if maturity, energy etc. are high enough), then train it, then feed it (and use a special feed if some stat is too low). I took it I should do all of that before rollvover, so train and feed before the race takes place. I didn't quite understand yet why it is so important to enter the race first, when it doesn't seem to have any effect on the following tasks - why it is a bad idea to enter after doing everything else? (In the tutorial it was also in a different order, so it seems I should act against what I learned in the tutorial??) Also, I'm a bit unsure about training: as far as I understood, if I race a horse I do the 1st training with a method that consumes 0% energy and then no other training to keep the energy high enough to race safely. If a horse isn't racing yet, I do the 1st training with 0% energy loss and then choose another training (or two if the energy is still high enough? Is that wise or does it take too long for the energy to restore?). Did I get that right? And - sorry for adding more questions - until now I played in the off season when rollover was every sunday, so "once a month". Now the sidebar tells me the next rollover is thursday even though the handbook wrote off season is until february. So my questions are: Is there rollover twice a irl week in the january weeks? Does it go back to once a month for february and then twice a month in march onwards? Does the result of the rollover look the same in march-october (or january-october?) as it did in november/december, just twice a month? (= horses race, gain maturity, gain energy...) Or do these gains only happen once, after the sunday rollover, but not after the thursday rollover? I read january is two irl weeks long for players to do a lot of necessary stuff. What is all of that needs to be done? Do I need to worry or take part in anything if I just started racing my horses? (I don't take part in breeding yet) I look forward to your answers and want to say thanks in advance!

Issa (#1) Zadie Creek Stables Posted On: 10/22/2023 10:40 PM	You should train after entering so that you know what distance (and possibly) surface to train. Once you unlock Buddy Workouts, those will be the training your horses do most often and if you train after a horse is entered they'll gain track familiarity at the track you're racing at. You may feed before or after training depending on what a horse needs - if they have yellow Morale (or worse), feed Focus before training. Otherwise, feed after training so you can see if you need to do extra training and possibly need Hype or if you're safe to feed Steady. Basically, doing things in that order allows you to better tailor your training and feeding to fit the race a horse is entering as well as their other needs. If a horse is not racing, it is fine to burn all of their Energy. This is common in the early part of the year for 2 year olds and sometimes 3-4 year olds who are still maxing. It's also common during off season if your horses need the benefits of off season training. If you want to race a horse the next week, without feeding Hype, stop training when they're at 50% Energy to ensure they're high enough to race the next week. Off season (Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb) only has 1 meet per game month, so races and rollover will only happen once. However, Energy (and Morale, Rest, Peak, Condition, etc.) works the same during off season as racing season since it only refills at the end of the month, not each meet. January is also always 2 weeks long with only 1 rollover at the end of the 2 weeks. As a newer player January won't involve anything too special for you, but once you're established you'll have a lot of organizing as you move horses who aged up into new barns, get everything on new 2 year olds set up, sort out horses to consign to the auction (or lease/sell), decide who is retiring, list stallions on the roster, and begin matching. It's quite a busy time for most! Let me know I missed anything or if anything is unclear.
A. (#1380) Phoenix Rising Stables Posted On: 10/22/2023 10:45 PM	1. You want to enter horses before feeding/training in case they need any "extra" care to help them in the race. Like if you enter a distance you didn't expect to, so you need to train on 7f, which they are yellow on, instead of 9f, which they are already green on. Once you can do buddy works, it also allows you to buddy work them at the track they are entered at, which is helpful for track familiarity when they are racing away from home track. You certainly CAN enter after training/feeding, it's just that entering first allows for more flexibility/can help boost your horse's performance. I can't speak to what the tutorial says to do, but you can pick up a lot of little tips and tricks from other players to help your horses do better. 2. If a horse is racing, yes, you want to do a training that won't take energy, or that will take very little energy. If a horse is not racing, what you want to do will vary. If they're not maxed, typically you want to train them all the way down on their energy to try to get their stats maxed. During off season, you may want to train some horses all the way down on trail rides/track rides specifically for their off-season benefits. 3. November, December, and February are one week long, with NO Thursday rollover; rollover for these months is only on Sunday mornings at 1am FFH time. January is two weeks long, with its ONLY rollover on Sunday morning of the second week. Don't worry about the sidebar, it just has to be manually edited by an admin during the off season. Rollover is twice a week again starting in March & going through October. 4. Even when rollover is twice a week, horses only gain energy/rest/etc back on Sunday rollover. Thursday rollover is just for races/shows to run & new races/shows to be posted. 5. I wouldn't worry about anything! Since you're new, I would honestly just suggest racing your existing horses. Maybe pick up some 2 year olds from the sales/horse trader so that you can play around with racing young horses. January is the best time to do that, since you have more time to prep them before 2yo races start in May. Hope this helps! Welcome to FFH! :)

I love complex games, but at the beginning when I don't have an overview and know how to handle my tasks yet I tend to feel like I'm working in the wrong direction or missing something important. Your answers were very easy to understand and I also got why I should do things a certain way (the concrete advantages of it). All my questions cleared up and I'm really exited to put my new knowledge to the test :)

All Paint marking genes are now weighted by breed. Paint Horses have a higher chance of passing Paint markings to their foals, while all other breeds have a lower chance of passing Paint markings to their foals. This makes the classification of Paint markings Common for Paint Horses and Rare for all other breeds.

Prime has been broken and has not been declining at all for several game years. As a result, most horses have substantially more Prime than should be appropriate. (Ex: A 6yo who hit 100% Peak by the time they turned 4 should have lost 24+ Prime but has actually lost none.) Rather than setting all horses to what they should have, horses 5 and older will temporarily lose Prime twice as fast to accommodate.

Mare grade inspections have reopened. There is a now a fee for grade testing mares, as listed on the inspection page. Mares do not need to be tested to be eligible to breed. The only other adjustment to mare grading is the removal of surface from the grading formula.

A few minor adjustments have been made to Stallion Grades and stallions will need retested. Notably - Since SS/Import/Custom cannot be the worst level of 'Average', they may still earn B grades. Horses with tested negative mutations also cannot grade higher than C unless tested AA+ PQ. This info has been updated in the Handbook as well. Thanks for your patience!

The Stallion Grade system has been updated and testing is open again. These updates offer more flexibility in factors that have less impact on a foal's potential while placing more weight on factors that have a stronger impact on a foal's potential. The Handbook page has also been updated, though the most notable change is that tested Average PQ cannot grade higher than C.
