MII, Buddy Workouts, Upcoming, Raffle, Poll! |

| If the title didn't already clue you in, it's a busy day in FFH news! I have a lot of little random things to cover, so tune in, sit back, and grab some popcorn. (Early?) Breeding Changes for Y38 We have a number of changes planned for the breeding system starting next year, and I want to bring these to you with as much time to plan as possible. The first round of updates revolves around Mare Improvement Incentive specifically. Mares will now be able to earn MII status (due to low AFP) after just 2 foals. This has been decreased from 3 foals to allow truly bad producers to benefit from their MII status sooner, which will also add more mares into the MII pool. The number of MII mares required for enrollment in the Stallion Incentive Program has increased. Thoroughbred, Stock, and Standardbred stallions will require 2 MII mares to make Silver, 5 for Gold, and 8 for Platinum. Goldblood stallions require 0 for Silver, 2 for Gold, and 5 for Platinum. Bronze SIP does not require MII mares, so any stallion can still earn SIP regardless of how many MII mares he is bred to. You will still be able to tell which Bronze stallions are (likely) producing better than others by looking at AFP and/or further investigation. These changes will continue to improve the overall transparency of stallion quality, as it makes it a bit more difficult to falsely pad a stallion's AFP by breeding to only good mares. While this is good news for mare owners, it's also not a death sentence to stallion owners. These are relatively small percentages of the total foals a stallion is likely to produce. Keep in mind that many MII mares are actually decent producers despite bad stats and/or genes. In an attempt to further encourage MII acceptance and affordable stud fees, FFH will now be paying a $250,000 supplementary bonus each time a stallion covers a MII mare. (Rebreeds in the same season not included.) This means that you will receive $250,000 on top of a stallion's regular MII fee to help offset the risks (and often lower fees) associated with breeding to MII mares. Morale & Experience Balancing Raise your hand if you often feel crunched for time trying to get through all your horses by the end of B meets. Raise your hand if you spend twice as much time as necessary on every horse because you feel obligated to perform buddy workouts every month. Raise your hand if you are (or have been) a new player who is frustrated you can't yet access what seems to be a vital training skill. Raise your hand if you really just wish buddy workouts felt like an accessory rather than a necessity. If you haven't raised your hand yet, consider yourself lucky. If you have, welcome to the club! I think by now you understand what I'm saying here is that buddy workouts have felt a bit unbalanced, even punishing, lately. While buddy workouts should be rewarding, they should not be something you need to do with every horse, every week, to feel like you're successful. Cue some efforts at balancing... Experience gains from buddy workouts have been decreased. To offset this, experience gains from races has increased. Racing is the name of the game (maybe not literally, but y'know what I mean) and should be your main focus. Racing should always be more rewarding than buddy workouts. With this slight shift in numbers, actively racing G1 runners will definitely take precedence over buddy workouts. While this may mean it's a bit harder to keep experience on horses not racing G1...you really don't need experience to be competitive outside of G1. Morale has likewise been adjusted. Buddy workouts reward less morale, while training rewards more. Along with this change, we've decreased the amount of morale lost when performing Gate Training. This is not a substantial change, but should all add up to it being easier to balance morale in both racing and unmaxed up-and-comers. Upcoming Updates But Issa, you almost never announce what you guys have planned! You're right! I don't. However, with the poll listed below in mind, I want to address these things now so that you're aware. In other words, don't list them on your poll responses! (Unless perhaps they're relevant to question 1 or 4?) 1) Minor improvements to race search: Options to set mud preferences and ability to enter series races from either region (when eligible). 2) Updates to Genetics page: Visual/organizational improvements for clarity/understanding and the ability to buy all types of genetics and blood types directly from the page. 3) Option to not accept requests from MII mares. 4) Genotype search enhancements: Search by breed rather than Goldblood percentage, search for Peak/Prime, search for PM/PD. 5) Icons on Mare Services for mares who are up for sale, lease, or auction. 6) Numerous other odds and ends (such as green-flagged 'Ideas & Suggestions') as well as some longer-term (bigger) projects including a FFH newspaper and major leaderboard overhaul. The Pacific region races will also most likely be opening in Y38. Raffle The long-awaited off season contest raffle will be held tonight at 6:00pm in Discord. You don't need to be there! I'll just be announcing who wins each prize as it's drawn and you're welcome to stop by and cheer for everyone if you'd like. Poll & Community Discussion Forums It's time for another poll! This one is far less detailed than the last and is aimed at coming up with some topics to discuss in upcoming Community Forum Nights. There are no rewards for taking the poll and it is 100% anonymous. Please keep responses brief - a list of bullet points is excellent - so that we can quickly scan through them to compile a list of discussion points. You can find the poll here. The first Community Discussion Forum will be this Friday at 2:00pm and 8:00pm in a new Discord channel. There are two times to ideally accommodate members from various time zones. The same general discussion points may or may not come up in each, depending on how the discussion goes. You're welcome to attend both if you're able! Don't worry too much if you can't make either - the channel will remain visible so you can read through later and add comments if you'd like. We'll also be hosting additional discussions either over the weekend or sometime next week at times TBA. |

| After having made it through that, I have to say that all of this is exciting. The raffle and discussion forums are especially so, I’ll try and make it to both of the discussions, even if I don’t say anything and just read through it all. |

| Was a bit concerned when I first heard about the changes - however, these seem really promising! Been struggling with my lack of buddies after my return to the game so I am hoping it'll be a nice change. Excited for the mud update as well, I know my mudders will be thankful!
