Don't let the title fool you. This isn't actually a very long exciting news post, but our first little sweep of new year tidying has begun.

First off, I'd like to officially announce that all months year round will be 1 week long moving forward. This means that all off season months, although only one meet long, will be a full week. The original motivation behind the 'off season' is to allow time to focus on the breeding side of the game without feeling like your racing game has to suffer. Cramming 4 months into 2 weeks has consistently proven not to work out well for most people. However, we realize this time of year can be a bit dull for newbies and those who have less interest in breeding, so we'll continue to work on ways to keep things exciting through the quieter racing months. (Don't forget stock horses have their big series in December!)

The semi-annual training and bloodstock auctions will be returning this year. Consignments will begin at the start of December and will remain open until the last day of December. Bidding will begin sometime on the last day of December when consignments close.

Longevity and Prime for existing stock horses has been increased. They are supposed to start with higher Longevity/Prime to make up for not being able to transition, but it seems like they weren't getting enough of a boost. All stock horses (from HT/imports/breeding) going forward should receive the appropriate boost.

All 4yo+ Horse Trader horses will now come fully maxed. While this change is mainly aimed at helping newbies get their horses on the track faster, this will apply to all HT horses. Any 4yo+ horse you pick up will be ready to race as soon as you get their distance/surface trained up enough! Note: This may not apply to a few horses lingering in the HT since before the change went in. However, it will apply to all new horses filtering through.

Horses can no longer lose Peak until they are at least 3 years old. This means that horses with low Prime but fast Peak genes will at least be able to finish their 2yo season before they start losing Peak. This change does not prevent the loss of Prime.

As an additional note that was forgotten in a previous news post, Standardbreds do not begin racing until they are 3. To accommodate for this, they will peak slightly slower than other breeds. You should not have to worry about them running out of Prime before they are even eligible to race, as few to none should hit 100% Peak as a 2 year old.

Finally, I've seen this topic come up a bit lately so I would like to take a moment to address it for those who are new or have simply forgotten. Training refusals... Annoying. But completely manageable. Please remember that refusals are based on a combination of Consistency and Morale. If your horse has low Morale, you must take this into consideration before training. You can feed Focus, do a maintenance or long gallop, or do a timed/buddy workout, all of which will raise Morale (and cannot be refused). You may need to do a combination of those to get Morale high enough to successfully complete other types of training. Consistency is less important, but will increase naturally as they progress through training. Over time, a horse's odds of refusing training will decrease, assuming they don't max at incredibly low Consistency.

The changes to 4yo+ HT should alleviate some of the stress with training refusals. So long as you're following good breeding practices and feeding your yearlings Focus, the only horses that should see high refusal rates are 2yo/3yo HT/import/Goldblood horses, yearlings who skipped Focus, or perhaps horses whose Morale dropped without you noticing. Thankfully, these situations are easy to remedy using the advice above - any horse can achieve decent Morale in just a couple meets!

Thanks for the updates! I was actually about going to post in the help board because I had 4 horses run through 100+% energy trying to get stats on them, and they refused every single training except for the buddy workouts. I had two others who almost did the same, but actually got a training in. I was under the impression is was low temperament that caused it, and had no idea moral played into it. Thanks for the tips!

Thanks for the tips on horses refusing training... the last few times (weeks) I trained all my (depressed) horses practically all of them failed and I was getting confused.

Prime has been broken and has not been declining at all for several game years. As a result, most horses have substantially more Prime than should be appropriate. (Ex: A 6yo who hit 100% Peak by the time they turned 4 should have lost 24+ Prime but has actually lost none.) The Stallion Grade system has been updated and testing is open again. These updates offer more flexibility in factors that have less impact on a foal's potential while placing more weight on factors that have a stronger impact on a foal's potential. The Handbook page has also been updated, though the most notable change is that tested Average PQ cannot grade higher than C.

Contesting horses will have a 3 leg jackpot series through July, August, and September beginning in Y55. This will be offered for both barrels and poles with alternating regions per race.

Performance based Suggested Grade now only looks at a horse's most recent race. This should alleviate a lot of problems where horses show a lower grade than is actually appropriate, helping avoid Handily results.

Mares who are already retired may be eligible for reduced foal slots. If so, a notice will appear at the top of their page allowing you to opt in (or opt out) of the foal slot change.

The value of Golden Apples has been updated to 200 GA = 100 PC = $1,000,000 (loosely). Prices for items in the GAO have been updated accordingly. The PC value for Sunkissed Tart, Ultra Wraps, Cream Token, Roan Token, and Dun Token have also been updated.
