Good morning FFH! If you keep up with our Facebook page or Discord, you’ve probably noticed some REALLY exciting teasers and news in the past couple of days.

Quarter Horses and Paint Horses have been added to FFH! While that’s the most important thing to know, I’m sure you have a lot of questions about these exciting new breeds and how they will fit into the game. Read on!

How to Buy
You can purchase Quarter Horses (QH) and Paint Horses (PH) from both the Horse Trader and the Import feature. They will be the same quality you’d normally expect from either location - with Imports having higher average quality and Horse Trader representing a wide range of quality.

Standard Import fees apply, however, you currently have a limit of 10 stock horse imports per month in addition to your 5 Thoroughbred. Stock horses from the HT are currently offered at a 75% discount - this is based on your normal HT fee. If you normally pay $100,000, you’d currently only pay $25,000 for stock horses. We have also given everyone 10 extra Trader Tickets to help you get started with the new breeds, if you so choose.

Please note that both breeds can be found at the HT, though Paints are significantly rarer. Both can also be found via Imports - any stock horse that has a paint marking is considered a Paint by breed as well.

Racing
Training and racing stock horses is quite similar to Thoroughbreds. The main difference is that they have their own set of races (at the usual tracks) and race distances are broken into yards (yds) rather than furlongs. Races on FFH are offered from 200 to 800 yards. 440 yards is the ‘classic’ QH distance of a quarter mile (equal to 2 furlongs), so by that measure the races we offer range from about 1/10th of a mile to a half mile. This is quite a bit shorter than our Thoroughbreds, whose median distance, outside of marathon, is 8 furlongs or 1 mile.

While these are fun differences to note that make the breeds feel unique, the way distances work for training and racing is exactly like Thoroughbreds! Horses with better Speed genes will favor distances at the shorter end of the range (200-400), while horses with better Stamina genes will favor distances at the longer end of the range (600-800). There are, of course, no ‘miler’ QH/PH, so horses without genetic aptitude for either long or short races will fall right into the middle at around 500 yards.

Stock horses can also learn both dirt and turf. However, turf is significantly rarer than dirt aptitude. You will certainly find some turf lovers in the HT and Imports, but if you want a strong presence of turf runners in your barn it’s something you’ll have to focus on breeding.

Stock horses cannot do marathon or steeplechases. They will only race at the flat and only at the distances they originally start with.

Series Races?!
Of course! We have plans in the works for series races for QH and PH. At this point in time, the two breeds will always enter the same races, and their series races (for now) will follow suit. If, in time, the two breeds grow prominent enough to justify a division in races, we’ll address that then. As of now, we have plans for Futurities (2yo), Derbies (3yo), and Maturities (4yo+). These will begin next game year, giving the new breeds a chance to get on their feet.

Breeding
With multiple breeds coming into the mix, you are likely wondering how breeding will work. For starters, it’s important to note that Goldbloods are still finicky and hate crossbreeding with any other breed. You’ll always want to keep your lines pure, which means QH and PH should not be crossed with GB.

QH and PH, however, can be crossed with each other. Any foal resulting from the cross will be classified as PH, whether or not it inherits a paint coloration. Keeping these lines pure will reduce defect chances, which will be an important factor as you’re building up your lines.

QH and PH can also cross with TB - with caution. Crossing either with TB will result in Appendix foals, which will have some downsides such as ineligibility for some races. Horses, and their offspring, will remain Appendix until they earn enough points for a full registry or are bred pure for a few generations. More information on breeding will be announced closer to next breeding season!

Goldbloods…
We are working to define Goldbloods as a unique breed on FFH, as we do not want them to pale in comparison to shiny new ponies. Something very, very exciting is coming for Goldbloods soon!

I just read something about newbies, cannot find it now. Basically it says if you breed good horses with good horses you get good horses. In reality that's not true in my humble opinion. Check out Secretariat, covered many mares, only two were good. But here it seems true. I'm confused. Again just my humble opinion. Have a great day. Thanks.

Prime has been broken and has not been declining at all for several game years. As a result, most horses have substantially more Prime than should be appropriate. (Ex: A 6yo who hit 100% Peak by the time they turned 4 should have lost 24+ Prime but has actually lost none.) Rather than setting all horses to what they should have, horses 5 and older will temporarily lose Prime twice as fast to accommodate.

Time Turner and Prismatic Time Turner have been restored from retirement. They now change a mare's due date to January or the current month and Prismatic also resets a mare's color show cooldown.

The mare grading formula has been updated. All mares may now be tested again, although most likely there will be few changes.

Horses who earn Court of Stars now receive a Producer Quality boost. Horses who have already earned Court of Stars have also received a PQ boost.

A few minor adjustments have been made to Stallion Grades and stallions will need retested. Notably - Since SS/Import/Custom cannot be the worst level of 'Average', they may still earn B grades. Horses with tested negative mutations also cannot grade higher than C unless tested AA+ PQ. This info has been updated in the Handbook as well. Thanks for your patience!

The Stallion Grade system has been updated and testing is open again. These updates offer more flexibility in factors that have less impact on a foal's potential while placing more weight on factors that have a stronger impact on a foal's potential. The Handbook page has also been updated, though the most notable change is that tested Average PQ cannot grade higher than C.

Contesting horses will have a 3 leg jackpot series through July, August, and September beginning in Y55. This will be offered for both barrels and poles with alternating regions per race.

Performance based Suggested Grade now only looks at a horse's most recent race. This should alleviate a lot of problems where horses show a lower grade than is actually appropriate, helping avoid Handily results.

Mares who are already retired may be eligible for reduced foal slots. If so, a notice will appear at the top of their page allowing you to opt in (or opt out) of the foal slot change.

The value of Golden Apples has been updated to 200 GA = 100 PC = $1,000,000 (loosely). Prices for items in the GAO have been updated accordingly. The PC value for Sunkissed Tart, Ultra Wraps, Cream Token, Roan Token, and Dun Token have also been updated.
