Happy New Year! May all your 2 year old glow ups be glamorous! Before you rush off to check on all the exciting things, please take a moment to review these updates. The training and racing engine for 2 and 3 year olds has received several balancing updates. The most important of these changes is that 2 and 3 year olds now have stat caps. Yearlings may not exceed 2 in any stat, 2 year olds may not exceed 5, and 3 year olds may not exceed 8. Stat caps, like maxed stats, are indicated by blue stars and bold/underline stats on pages. Horses cannot improve a stat beyond the cap for their age, however, they may uncap as they age until they finally reach their max. Existing 2, 3, and 4 year old horses have been adjusted based upon stat caps for their age. Horses created through the Horse Trader, Import, Custom Goldblood, and Select Sale start with stats relative to their age with consideration for time of year. A 3 year old purchased in December will have higher stats than a 3 year old purchased in February, but will not exceed appropriate caps. Additionally, created horses aged 5 and older come fully maxed. (This was previously 4 for HT horses.) 2 year olds and 3 year olds once again always use Energy for the first training of the month with the exception of Maintenance. 3 year olds, like 2 year olds, also use extra Energy when training. A bug which was causing 2 year olds to gain excessive Early Speed/Late Speed has also been fixed, so you may note slightly slower stat improvement in those areas. 2 and 3 year olds now have a hidden Advancement trait, similar to Gelding Advancement. Advancement, like Experience, helps horses perform better in races - but Advancement is permanent once earned. Each race a young horse finishes adds 10% to their Advancement, meaning it will reach 100% after 10 races. Additionally, horses receive a boost to their Travel affinity if they've finished at least 5 races by the time they turn 3 and/or at least 10 races by the time they turn 4. (Horses may earn 2 boosts if they meet both benchmarks.) We understand how demoralizing it can be to see some of your best prospects DQ in series races. DQ chances have been greatly reduced across the board so DQs should mostly be limited to horses with 0-1 Consistency. You may occasionally see DQs from horses with 2-3 Consistency, while horses with at least 4 Consistency very rarely DQ. To balance this change, training refusals have been increased slightly. On another note - we will be having the first ever Apple Blossom raffle in February! Apple Blossom raffles are similar to Select raffles, except they are composed only of retired mares and tickets can only be purchased with Golden Apples. These mares tend to have slightly lower genetic quality than Select horses (similar to Imports or Custom Goldblood) and are guaranteed to be at least Average producers. They also start with 7 foal slots. Tickets for the February raffle will be available soon! Import prices have been reduced to: 2,000 PC (Master/Diamond), 1,500 (Amateur/Savvy), and 1,000 (Green/Novice). This does not include the initial browsing deposit. Breeding Pass trade-in is now available for Amateur+ at the Breeding Passes page. You may exchange unwanted passes for Golden Apples, FFH$, or Import Vouchers. (Import Vouchers allow you to purchase an Import for free.) You may also exchange Breeding Passes to pay for the initial Import browsing fee. And one last random note before you can hurry along to pet your pretty ponies! Retired geldings now gain Condition when performing Buddy Workouts. |

This is so many updates! I’m still new to the game so a lot of these still baffle me but it’s wonderful to see a game that constantly updates and aims to improve its performance and game mechanics. The 2/3 year old updates seem particularly good. |

Thanks again for the updates ... also liking the drop in DQ chances as I have had a few "live" chances ruined due to the dreaded DQ. |

I'm super stoked by the DQ changes, nothing more frustrating than trying to get horses started but they come back having thrown their riders (delicately of course) haha. It'll be fun to watch the rest of the changes too! |

I'm really liking the stat caps for 2 and 3 year olds as I never want to race them before they're maxed. This should really be helpful for getting the younger horses raced. |

That's an impressive amount of updates. No wonder FFH had to close a bit early for yearly rollover. I'm actually glad for the stat caps because I think it will encourage more people, myself included, to race their younger horses more. I get so caught up with trying to max my young horses before racing them. |

My initial thought about the stat caps was negative, but since we're all in the same boat with it I guess it'll even things out and make things a bit more competitive. The little retired gelding update is very nice though. Thanks for all you do! |

Happy about the caps, even if it means a lot of lost training, but hey, it'll definitely be benefitial in the longrun - more chance for a wider variety of horses to do well. The racing bonuses for 2/3 year olds also sound great, for those who has enough longevity! I know my stable could use more youthful retirees so, let's see how this changes things! |

Slightly disappointed my high-maxed 3YOs now have to re-max their stats but I'm very pleased with the age-based stat caps. Less pressure to get them maxed high, more pressure to get them race-ready, but isn't that the whole point? Also, the breeding pass exchange is the best thing ever. Great incentive to race more often Overall, fantastic start to the new year! |
Dyana (#4623) Lonlon Farm Posted On: 08/01/21 2:01 am |
Hmm I never really enjoyed racing unmaxed young horses but I could tell the game has been pushing this for a while... At least with the stat caps and slowed down training it should become easier for me :) The other updates sound great. |

1. The new stat caps are great! Really, it's about time something like this went in. It'll be interesting to see how this affects training in the future, particularly for those horses that would otherwise have maxed really quickly. It'll be a bit annoying this year to have to "re-train" some 3-4yos who had been higher before, but going forward it will be nice. 2. Not loving the additional refusal chance. I'd have preferred a somewhat lower chance of stat gain myself, if training HAD to be further balanced to make up for fewer DQs. Refusals are maddening sometimes, if you get a lot in a row. I hate having to click buttons over and over again just for nothing to happen yet again, personally. 3. Apple blossom raffle sounds fun, though since I utilize GAs for items so often, I may choose not to participate this time (or may not be able to afford to, depending on the ultimate cost). 4. Breeding pass trade stuff is GREAT. Particularly import vouchers. Though, I do suspect you'll want to increase the cost of those at some point. Love that I got five import mares for free earlier, but that seems like it could get imbalanced in a hurry, lol. |
Titan (#1601) Lucky Shot Racing Posted On: 08/01/21 11:38 am |
Probably one of my favorite updates we’ve done recently! Less series DQs is going to be so helpful, and I already wasn’t having refusals often so more refusals won’t really bother me much. Stat caps I’m hoping will really bring out more competition in younger horse series races! |
A. (#1380) Phoenix Rising Stables Posted On: 08/01/21 2:16 am |
5. Forgot to mention - Advancement sounds AMAZING. Maybe people will start racing their young horses now!! I can't think of a single downside to this feature (and you know how I love pointing out downsides, lmao). Going forward, I'll be racing even my low peak horses young to get that and the Travel bonuses. :D |
Smokey (#3723) White Dove Farm Posted On: 08/01/21 2:51 am |
Thanks for the updates, looking forward to some changes like the breeding passes and buddy workout condition improvement, and not looking forward so much to more refusals, and not sure I'm understanding the stat cap addition. I would certainly like to get my young horses racing sooner, always getting hung up on starting them before they are fully maxed. Looking forward to the new year while I can. |
Wolf (#4154) Wolfcreek Stud Posted On: 08/01/21 3:02 am |
Love the idea of the breeding pass ticket trade in and the Apple Blossom raffle sounds amazing hopefully wont be too expensive, the other updates I will have to see how they play out if I like them |
Jarvis (#2080) Iron Shield Stables Posted On: 08/01/21 3:27 am |
I love the idea of the buddy workouts, and advancements and am curious to see how the stat caps work out. I'm like others and often never raced unmaxed three year olds so I'm excited for that to change. I do wonder how the caps are going to impact performance for horses with normal or low prime but high peak but we'll see! |
Blackie (#1567) Old Albion Thoroughbred Stud Posted On: 08/01/21 3:29 am |
Hmm, the refusals are already getting annoying, but it's nice that the value of golden apples and breeding passes are being raised! Maybe all these changes will help bolster race entries, too. |
Lady Revna (#2458) Darkside Racing Posted On: 08/01/21 3:45 am |
I am really stoked for stat caps! I always get hung up on maxing my horses instead of racing them, so this will help me greatly! Training refusals can get annoying, but for the most part I rarely have to deal with them, even in my fresh 2 yos so I can appreciate the balance. I love the advancement trait, it's like little goals to work towards and it's something that won't disappear over time. Breeding pass trade in-s are AWESOME, thank you for that! Overall awesome new year additions and I'm excited to see what this year brings! |
Anjan (#5822) Gates to Eternity Posted On: 08/01/21 4:22 am |
The changes to 2-3yos max cap looks interesting, it might actually help me to feel okay entering my 2yo STBs a bit more. And the travel bonus for 5/10 races is also an incentive to get them going earlier. I do have some concerns however. I seem to recall that 2yos use more longevity per race than older horses, which is one of the reasons I haven't pushed my STBs (and low health TBs/GBs) all that much as 2yos. I probably will still have to weigh the travel bonus vs more races in their career for some horses. The changes to DQ feels welcome after this WCF - I even had two older horses with 4-6 consistency that just decided they did not want to run. XD The apple Blossom raffle sounds interesting, any idea of how many apples it will be per ticket? Apples does sometimes take a bit more time to accumulate so just wondering if I should sit hard on them until the raffle or not. On the same note I am loving the breeding pass trade in, since as a much smaller scale breeder than some I have ended up stockpiling passes a bit and being able to trade them in is a great idea. |

Happy New Year! Another great roundup post. I am interested to see how the stat caps will even things out. Advancement looks like a nice little bonus, and glad to see DQs being reduced even though I haven't experienced many yet. I watch a lot of RL horse racing and DQs are pretty few and far between anyways. Now if only I can get my 2yos from DQing themselves from training! :D Thanks again for all your hard work. |

A lot of changes going on here - the stat caps will be a bit of a learning curve. The advancement and DQ changes will be nice. The apple blossom raffle has the cutest name, I am curious to see how those raffle ponies come out. And appreciative of the lowered import prices. Thanks~ |

As a new player, the stat caps seem like a good change! It's the first year I'm trying campaigning and I think the caps being in place could potentially help me get a better sense of how fast the young horses should be developing. Not sure if it'll work out that way for sure yet, but I like it on paper at least. |

The stat caps are an interesting addition that I think I like so far. Not as excited about the increased refusals and energy cost for first training. Feels like a bit of mixed signals. The stat caps and "advancement" make me feel I should race my young horses, but the increased refusals and energy costs tell me they should focus on training instead (and racing while training stats would be difficult without spamming hype). |
Lakarr (#162) Forgotten Lies Yardland Posted On: 08/01/21 10:22 am |
Stat caps will definately mekr me more willing to race my youngsters :) That said, I have a very low tolerance for training refusals, so we will see how that chage effects the horses I choose to keep. |

I adore the breeding pass exchange! Already pulled a black import filly! It will also help me not breed too many each year because I was sitting on a ton of passes. It will be interesting to see how the stat caps play out while people get used to them. And now to learn a balance of racing youngsters for the advancement in terms of my peak problems in my barn. It might make me pay more attention to peak (and health since 2yo use more longe). |

Definitely a lot of interesting changes! I'm definitely interested to see how the caps will affect the 2/3yo races, if they'll be more competitive or what. Excited to eventually make it to Amateur for the breeding pass trade ins (plus it'll make entering the breeding pass raffle more worth it!). I need to go check out my stable to see how the training/increased energy/refusals for training will affect my guys, but I trust you and the team to balance things well. Thank you for all you do for the game! |

Happy new year! All of the changes will be interesting and may take some getting used to, but ultimately should improve game play! I think that the caps will help across the board so that way it is more of an equal chance for everyone to compete in series races |
Qulka (#7243) Qulkas Acres Posted On: 08/01/21 2:31 pm |
Thank you for the update! Advancement idea would be great, if not the fact that 2yo use so much longevity, so it won't really impact my starts, it will just be dissapointing to not getting 100% bonus. Import Vouchers and Apple blossom raffle were shortly exciting, untill the GAO prizes changed today. Well, maybe I wasn't fast enough to manage my changes/buys :) Personaly, training refusals bother me more than DQs, but I see most people see it other way round, so I understand the change, somehow. What I like are stat caps, they make the young horses races more balanced and gives players more equal chances. |

King (#6759) Horse Creek Farm Posted On: 08/01/21 4:12 pm |
The advancement is a cool idea. But I never really race 2 year old. I don't like reducing the amount of races they can run. I do like the trade in idea for the breeding passes though. I don't typically use many anyways. I honestly have more issues with training refusals than DQs and though, so that's probably going to be frustrating. |

I think the stat cap for 2 and 3yos will be interesting to see how it plays out. In theory it sounds like it should really help level the playing field! Also love the new golden apples and breeding passes uses! Looking forward to the the Apple Blossom raffle; though I doubt I'll have the apples to participate this time it'll be interesting to see what others get. There's definitely a lot of incentive with these new updates to race more regularly. Hopefully I'll have the time this game year to race all of my ponies properly. |

I was dreading the more refusals thing, but I’ve trained most of my horses that needed things that weren’t Maintenance now and I haven’t really noticed it. Some horses refusing ten times in a row but only the ones that were already doing that anyway. So I’m not as unhappy as I thought I would be about that one. I’m also one of those people who was tunnel visioning maxing horses before racing them at three year old. This might help me to let go of that at least until they’re four years old now. xD I like the golden apple raffle thing, though I most likely won’t participate because I just spent all my golden apples on a dun token. xD Maybe next time. |

Stat caps are such a good idea, and so is raising the age for horses from HT to be maxed. I only recently started playing but because of it being prior update, my 4 year olds were already maxed. Happy to get some extra training with them! |
Okro (#2872) Black Okra Acres Posted On: 08/04/21 9:45 am |
I'm noticing as I work my horses this month, that I won't be able to both train and enter my 2 or 3 year olds into races. Will there be an increase on stat increase chances for racing 2 and 3 year olds? I can consistently enter on 80-90 energy for them and hit their PRs, and usually they refuse or don't gain a stat anyway. Might there be an adjustment to counteract this? Otherwise I'm going to have a LOT of unmaxed 4 year olds - who also refuse or don't learn anything during training. Thought this might be a consideration for balancing. |
